POTENTIALLY USEFUL / 5 DAY DURATION, TWICE DAILY INTERACTIONS / ERNEST G WELCH GALLERY. ATLANTA, GA / MAY 2015
Potentially Useful is a maintenance performance in the categorization and displacement of discarded materials. Remnants were swept from the artist's 6th floor studio, down the stairwell, to the first floor gallery. The resulting pile was aesthetically organized each evening for five days and swept back to a pile the each of the following mornings. The actions within the performance point to the potential arbitrary nature of the categorization of objects by their human function while exercising material presence and absence.
Potentially Useful as a performance originated as an isolated practice of organizing and slowly taking away material.
